    Cookies for EWIM Angels

As has been a long-standing custom at EWIM, volunteers and Board members baked an array of holiday cookies to share with area businesses and community partners to thank them for their support of the Walk-In Ministry  throughout the year.  A smaller group of volunteers then arranged the platters, wrapped, and delivered the cookies to these "EWIM Angels."  Twenty-five platters were delivered in all.

    Barbecue Fundraiser

Board member Roy King cooked up a great fundraiser for EWIM in July. Roy and his sister Victoria, competitive barbecuers, invited family, friends, and EWIM volunteers to taste their delicious ribs and chicken in exchange for a free will donation at Firin' Up the Fox in West Chicago. Not to be outdone, their daughters made and sold duct tape wallets at the event. A matching gift from Roy and Jennifer meant over $1,500 were raised for the Walk-In Ministry.

Elmhurst Walk-In Ministry Hires Jackie Crnkovich as Executive Director

Jackie Crnkovich came on as a part-time Executive Director in January. The Walk-In Ministry has been growing since its inception seventeen years ago, and the work of fundraising and community outreach became too large for the volunteers in charge of the organization. Having an executive director will allow the organization to continue on its growth trajectory, while adding new angles to the services offered. Jackie comes from a background in teaching, writing, and community service. She has served as mentor in the Daybreak Transitional Housing program, coordinated the efforts of an Elmhurst consortium of churches that rehabbed a home with DuPage Habitat for Humanity, and is past-president and current board member of the Friends of the Elmhurst Public Library. She has also served on the Immaculate Conception Grade School Board and Parish Council.

$13,700 Donation From "100 + Women Who Care"

On February 26, 2014, the five founding members of the new Elmhurst charitable giving group, 100+ Women Who Care, came to the site to present us with a $13,700 donation. Past President, Mary Mallon proposed the Walk-In Ministry as the recipient of the February gift from the 100 + Women and we won the vote. Needless to say, this will have a huge impact on our ability to meet our clients’ needs in the year ahead. Here, Jean Carlquist (bottom center) presents the checks to Mary Mallon (l) and Jackie Crnkovich, Executive Director (r). The other founding members are (back row, l to r) Charlotte Muschow, Marta Davy, Betsy Aldred, and Amy Allen, standing with Joan Hoff current EWIM President.
